Solange P. Martel

SANFORD - Solange P. Martel, 61, of Sanford, passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2013, at her home in Sanford.

She was born in Biddeford on Sept. 16, 1951, a daughter of the late Roland and Marie (Breton) Baron. She attended Biddeford High School.

Over the years, she had been employed by Hermon Shoe, Spencer Press and, for the past 29 years, at Evonik Cyro.

She loved spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed her adventures to casinos and playing cards and cribbage.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Elks Lodge, Wolves Club and the Springvale Social Club.

She is predeceased by her parents, as well as one brother, Normand Baron.

She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Arthur J. Martel; two stepdaughters, Brenda Hanson and her husband, Don, of Sanford, and Terry Kaiahua and her husband, Patrick, of Aiea, Hawaii; six grandchildren, Crystal Palmer and Donald Hanson III, of Sanford, Evan Palmer, of North Waterboro, and Keisha, Brandi and Kylie Kaiahua, of Aiea, Hawaii; two sisters, Claire McIntyre and her husband, Richard, and Rolande Ouellette, both of Biddeford; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours for Solange will be on Friday, July 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street, Sanford.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 13, at 10 a.m. at St. Thérèse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church, on North Avenue in Sanford.

The family would like to thank Dr. Can Ilyas, MD, and the staff at the Cancer Care Center and Hospice of Southern Maine for the excellent care given to Solange.
