Warren Seckendorf Obituary

DANVILLE - Warren "Smokey" P. Seckendorf, 56, died unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, March 31, 2016. Warren was born in Haverhill, Mass., on April 4, 1959, the son of Howard and Marion (Dutton) Seckendorf Jr., and had been living in Danville.

He was a retired Captain of the Salem Fire Department and during his career served as a volunteer with the Atkinson, Danville and Plaistow Fire Departments. At times he managed the Atkinson Animal Control and instructed EMT/Paramedic classes in the local area.

Warren was a good soul. No matter the circumstances he was willing and able to do whatever was necessary to help anyone in need. He was a teacher and mentor to many. His presence never went unnoticed as he could easily be spotted with his full head of salt and pepper hair, bright blue eyes, dark mustache and welcoming grin. He was a problem solver for many no matter how big or small the issue. In his spare time he enjoyed spending time with his friends, family and dog Pluisch, woodworking, his Harley and above all helping all walks of life. Another passion of his was meal time, but as big as his appetite was his heart was bigger. He was loved by many and will be missed by all.

Surviving members of our family include, his father, Howard Seckendorf Jr., and his wife Meridith of Florida, three daughters, Krysta Seckendorf of Sandown, N.H., Kara Robitaille and her husband Jeremy, and their two children Greyson and Sophia of Litchfield, N.H., and Kaleigh Seckendorf of Haverhill, Mass., the mother of his children Melany Steves of Hudson, N.H., one brother, Darrell Seckendorf of Florida, four sisters, Deborah Bundza of Rochester, N.H., Becky Ruel of Old Orchard, Maine, Mary Seckendorf of Rochester, N.H., and Kerry Seckendorf of Denver, Colo., his companion, Donna Butterfield-Loopey and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his mother, Marion Seckendorf and by a brother, Howard Seckendorf III.

SERVICES: Calling hours will be held at the H. J. Grondin & Son Funeral Home, 177 North Main Street, Rochester, N.H., on Thursday, April 7, 2016, from 12-2 p.m., and 4-6 p.m. A funeral service will follow the calling hours on Thursday at 6 p.m., in the chapel of the funeral home. Remembering Smokey from high school days, with the love of his life, Melany by his side and his quiet smile that always made you feel good inside when you passed him in the hall. Always the gentleman, and such a terrific basketball player and all around great guy. I will keep him alive in my memories and I send hugs and condolences to his daughters, and to Melany too, and also to the Seckendorf family, who has had to endure yet another huge loss. My love & prayers go out to you all.

Sorry for you loss, Warren was a great man. He was one of the guys that I looked up to when I first started taking fire school classes with him back in the 80's. He inspired me to become more interested and committed to the fire service, which has been a great career for me! Thinking about you guys!

To the Seckendorfs. My heartfelt condolences go out to all of you for the loss of Smokey. Like you, I am finding it difficult to digest. He was always doing something kind for others and always had a funny comment that made everyone in the room break out in laughter. There was never a wonder why his big brother was always so proud of him. I will be with all of you in spirit and am sending hugs your way. Krysta, Kara, Kaleigh ... an extra one for each of you. Love, Cheri

My thoughts are with all of Warren's family and friends. Along time ago I played basketball with Smokey (back in Jr and Sr High in Rochester). When I was sick a few years, he heard what I was going through and we renewed our friendship through email. His support gave me hope at that time, and the compassion he showed me at that time really showed how much of a loving person he was. I will miss him and remember him most for those gifts!

Dear Krysta, Kara and Kaleigh, it's difficult to find the appropriate works to express my sadness. It's been years but it seems like yesterday when you would come to the house for cookouts and pool parties. Your dad was such a radiant, fun and all around great person. He was never far from my thoughts. When I called him, he would drop everything to help me out. He always enjoyed my cooking and we would reminiscence and laugh about the antics of days gone by. Your Dad meant a great deal to me and I will cherish all of the wonderful memories I have. May he enjoy eternal rest and the rich rewards he surely earned. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. May your special memories bring you comfort during this difficult time. Please stay in touch. If there is anything you need, please let me know.
