AUDREY CLARK Obituary

Audrey F. Clark, of Pelham, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her four loving daughters. Audrey grew up in Greenfield, attending Holy Trinity School and graduating from Greenfield High School. While still in school, she worked part-time in the billing department at Greenfield Tap and Die, balancing academics with responsibility and determination. In 1947, she began her career with WHAI Radio in Greenfield, where she wrote advertising copy, public service announcements, and sold air time. Her creativity and charisma led her to co-host a daily morning show, The Don and Audrey Show, with Don Tuttle. A natural interviewer, Audrey spoke with many notable individuals, including First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, who was an influential and controversial women in America at that time. She also gave voice to young exchange students from England and Wales through the newly formed International Foreign Youth Exchange program. One memorable interview was with a 4-H National Award winner from Shelburne Falls-Donald Clark-who would later become her husband. Their first date blossomed into 67 joyful years of marriage. While raising their four daughters, Audrey returned to broadcasting, working at WHMP in Northampton where she continued to write jingles and ad copy. Later, she shifted careers and spent 20 years at Mark's Meadow School in Amherst. There, she served as Special Education Secretary and Administrative Assistant, where her warmth, kindness, and ready smile made a lasting impression on students and staff alike. Together, Audrey and Don were founding members of the Pelham Lions Club, with Audrey proudly serving as one of the organization's first female presidents. In retirement, Audrey and Don treasured travel and family time. Audrey's love for flowers and wildlife shone through her photography. Whether it was the flutter of bluebirds and butterflies, or unexpected visits from bears, coyotes, moose, or wild turkeys, she eagerly captured nature's wonder with her camera. Audrey will be remembered for her quick wit and bright sense of humor, which endeared her to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She leaves behind her four daughters: Kris (Mark) Divoll of Florence; Sandy Rosenthal of Ware; Katie LaCarrubba of New Jersey; and Jamie Fitzgibbon and her fiancé, Mark Unitis, of Ware. Audrey is also survived by five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Francis and Antoinette Cavanaugh; her brother, Edward; her husband, Donald; and sons-in-law, Joe Fitzgibbon and John LaCarrubba. Calling hours will be held on Monday June 30, from 5 – 7pm at the Douglass Funeral Service, Amherst. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, July 1, at 10 am at St. Brigid's Church in Amherst, followed by a private burial. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. Memorial register at www.douglassfuneral.com In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in Audrey's name be made to your favorite charity.
