John Westcott Obituary
John (Jack) Ralph Westcott of Oakton, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Thursday September 18, 2025 after 91 years of a well lived life.
Jack was born March 8, 1934 and is preceded in death by his parents, George H. Westcott, and Marion (Marvell) Westcott of North Amherst Massachusetts. Jack graduated from Amherst Regional High School in 1952 and University of Massachusetts school of Public Health in 1956 where he was a member of the Phi Mu Delta fraternity and served as President his Junior and Senior year. Upon graduation from the University of Massachusetts, Jack attended the University of Michigan where he graduated with a Master's degree in Public Health. When President Kennedy said "Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country." Jack answered the call and moved to Washington D.C. and began his career with the United States Public Health Service. Jack had a lengthy and outstanding career as a Grants Manager Officer for nearly 50 years. After retiring, Jack continued his calling of public service by volunteering with Community Lodgings After School Program in Alexandria, VA where he loved spending time on organized field trips and assisting children with homework. Jack also enjoyed visiting his daughter's classroom to read to her students, teaching citizenship classes for Catholic Charities, spending time with his children, grandchildren, and travelling the world with his wife Gail. Jack was a fan of sports and played tennis for many years and enjoyed watching Football, Tennis, Basketball, and Baseball - (Go Red Socks!) and then later took up ping pong to keep himself active and engaged.
Jack is survived by his loving wife Gail Sullivan, his children Betsy Schwers (Mike), Sean Westcott (Jean), Karen Lanzetta (Nic), and Julie Westcott. He is also survived by his beloved sister Judy (Westcott) Ingram, his grandchildren Ian Westcott, Megan Westcott, Samantha Schwers, Devin Schwers, his former wife Jean M. Westcott, and many nephews and nieces.
A Catholic Mass was held at St. Leo The Great Catholic Church, Fairfax, VA on October 3,2025 and a private internment was held at Fairfax Memorial Park, Fairfax, VA on October 4, 2025. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of John, please visit our floral store.
