Lillian Banas Obituary

It is with profound sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Lillian Banas, on September 5th, 2025, at the age of 99. She passed away peacefully at her home in Hadley surrounded by her loving family. She is preceded in death by her husband Carl, her siblings Edward, John, Joseph, Frank, Ann Drozdal, Agnes Simmons, Helen Shaw, and Josephine Zaniewski. Lillian was born in Hadley on June 19, 1926, to Michael and Katherine (Plaza) Drozdal and was a lifelong resident of Hadley. Lillian was known for her kindness, bright smile, strength and her passion for cooking and baking. She took immense pride in her kitchen and home, which for decades, served as the heart of the family. Her pierogies and whoopie pies were legendary, crafting each one by hand. Under her supervision, every Fall was a flurry of activity as the family pitched in with the preserving and canning of the fruits and vegetables from the family's extensive garden. She is survived by her children Carla Banas, Maryann Wood, Brenda (Charles) Sliker, Brent (Kathy) Banas and Shelley (Jimmie) Patterson; grandchildren Lucas (Natacha) Wood, Morgan Sliker, Garrison Banas, Briana (Odmir) Marques; and great-grandchildren Grayson and Eloise. She will be remembered for her devoted love, warm hugs and the countless memories she created with her family. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at The Center for Extended Care at Amherst and also to VNA and Hospice of Cooley Dickinson Hospital. There will be a calling hour on Monday September 15, 2025, at the DROZDAL FUNERAL HOME 120 Damon Rd., Northampton, from 10 AM – 11 AM, followed by a Prayer Service in the Funeral Home at 11 AM. Burial will immediately follow in Holy Rosary Cemetery, Hadley. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Lillian's memory to either Most Holy Redeemer Church 120 Russell St., Hadley, MA 01035 or VNA and Hospice of Cooley Dickinson Hospital 168 Industrial Dr., Northampton, MA 01060.
