Austin was a friend of our family for nearly 80 years. That association started in the late 1940s when he was an original member of the Boonsboro scout troop of which my father was the original scout master. Many great stories come from that period. Austin has generously continued that association over the years raising money and generally supporting scouting.
He also remained a family friend. I enjoyed visiting with him although that didn't happen often enough. You could expect a long visit covering many topics and always coming away with new knowledge.
I believe my father acquired at least one horse from Austin and at different times pastured horses at the Flook farm.
As a teenager, friends and I helped Austin bale hay and would just hang out at the farm. Those were fun times.
Austin was a local giant who quietly made a lifelong impact.
You'll be missed friend.
