Carol Devilbiss Obituary

Mrs. Carol Lynn Devilbiss, 52, of 7730 B Sundays Lane, Frederick, died suddenly Sunday, May 23.

She was the wife of Joseph F. Devilbiss Sr.

Born June 24, 1946, in Frederick, she was a daughter of Shirley Cadell Cheeks Sheldon of Melbourne, Fla., and the late Elbert Sanders Cheeks.

She was the secretary/treasurer for the Joseph F. Devilbiss Construction Co. and co-owner of the Bear Den Farm.

She was a very active member of Frederick County 4H Therapeutic Riding Program for disabled children. She had a great love for horses and gardening.

She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Adamstown.

In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by one son, Brent Andrew Ausherman of Frederick; one daughter, Lori Anne Reeder and husband David Dwayne of Middletown; one stepson, Joseph F. Devilbiss Jr. and wife Billie Jo of Thurmont; one stepdaughter, Wendi R. Devilbiss of Walkersville; three brothers, Sanders Cheeks, Daniel Cheeks and Terry Sheldon, all of Melbourne, Fla.; one sister, Louise Mills of Frederick; three grandchildren, Joshua Michael Reeder, Daniel Jacob Reeder and James Scott Mullican; father and mother-in-law, Franklin L. and Doris L. Devilbiss of Frederick; and several nieces and nephews.

She will also be remembered by her stepdaughter Wendi's fiance, Claude E. Neal of Walkersville; and goddaughter, Kayla Stull of Lewistown.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 26, from 1 to 3 and 6 to 9 p.m. at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 27, at 11 a.m. at Frederick Church of the Brethren, 201 Fairview Ave. The Rev. Susan E. Boehl, pastor of Lewistown United Methodist Church, will officiate.

Interment will be in Lewistown Cemetery, Lewistown.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Frederick County 4H Therapeutic Riding Program, in c/o FCNB Bank, 100 Commerce Drive, Walkersville, Md., 21993.
