Christine Gygi Obituary

Christine Tate Gygi, 41, daughter of Dr. Dale R. Tate and Dixie Voyer Tate of Camano Island, Wash., passed away unexpectedly on Oct. 4 in St. George, Utah.

Born in Waco, Texas, on May 14, 1963, Christine spent her childhood years in Texas, California, Utah and Calgary, Canada. Christine attended Homer Hanna High School graduating with honors in 1980. While at Hanna, she was active in track and field, marching band and Army ROTC. She also participated in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (L.D.S.) seminary program.

After high school, Christine embarked on her pursuit of higher learning, enrolling first at Texas Southmost University and later at Texas A&M and Brigham Young Universities. She interrupted her studies in mid-1983 when she met and married her husband Darrell Gygi of Ogden, Utah. She never lost sight of her goal to finish her education.

Christine and Darrell were married in the L.D.S. Salt Lake Temple and were married for 21 years at the time of her passing. Christine's children became her passion and she was a devoted and loving mother, teacher and friend to each of them. She worked tirelessly to make sure that they were well taken care of. She will be remembered as a meticulous and thoughtful mother who never hesitated to give her all in attending to her husband and family.

In 2002, Christine went back to school, resuming her college studies at Frederick County Community College. She switched her major to business and excelled. Christine earned a reputation at FCC as an outstanding scholar and made the Dean's list three consecutive semesters. She was invited to work as a teacher's assistant in the accounting department. In 2003, she became a member of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society.

Christine and her family attended the Damascus Ward of the L.D.S. church. Over the past seven years, she has held a number of prominent responsibilities in the church including a counselor and teacher in the Primary and Young Women's organizations. The young women in the Bangkok, Thailand, Branch affectionately referred to her as Mrs. G.

Christine is survived by her husband and their four children, David John (currently serving an L.D.S. mission in Puerto Rico), Stephen Christopher, Cameron Scott and Rachel Lauren Gygi. A memorial service will be held in her honor on Thurs. Oct. 14, at 7 p.m. at the L.D.S. Mount Airy Ward Chapel, 7255 Ridge Road, Mount Airy.
