Christopher Murphy Obituary
Christopher Anthony Murphy, Jr, known fondly to his family as Kit, passed away on Friday, January 9, 2015 at Edenton Retirement Community, under the care of Hospice of Frederick County and the loving, dedicated team at Edenton, where he'd lived since 2010. Predeceased by parents Christopher Anthony Murphy, Sr. and Eleanor Frances (Patrick) Murphy as well as a brother, Dennis Patrick Murphy, and wife, Julie Murphy, Chris is survived by two sisters, Claudia Marie Smith (Jerry), Margie Murphy Weaver, and one brother, Matthew Mark Murphy (Marilyn). He adored his nephews and nieces, Kevin Gerard Smith, Timothy Ross Smith, Lisa Raughley Smith, Tori Julia Weaver, Kevin Ross Murphy, Ryan Patrick Murphy, and Hannah Rose Murphy. Chris was a retired computer programmer with the Social Security Administration in Woodlawn, MD as well as CSC, Inc. Everyone who knew him counted on his intelligence and wit, as he was considered Google before Google was invented, always available to answer trivia or technical questions when they arose. Chris was the most loving and generous son, brother, uncle, and friend, always thinking of others before himself and taking care of anyone who needed assistance. He served as the Mayor of Edenton for two years of his residence there, and leaves behind many friends and team members who love him dearly. He loved model railroading, all things Disney (but especially Donald Duck), computers and technology, and was a rabid Orioles, Frederick Keys, and Ravens fan. He was a generous donor to many causes, including the annual "Stuff a Bus" campaigns to end hunger, the Fredericktowne Players, Supporting Older Adults Through Resources (SOAR), Inc., and others. His life can not easily be summed up in a limited number of words, as it was a life full of generosity and overflowing love for those he held dear. This quote from the Letters of John Wesley sums up his philosophy well: "Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can." He left the world a better place, and he is loved always, in all ways
