David Rhoderick Obituary

Mr. David Lester "Icey" Rhoderick, 92, of Frederick, passed away on Tuesday, August 2, 2016, at the Citizens Care and Rehabilitation Center. He was the husband of the late Ruth Rebecca Devilbiss Rhoderick, who died in 1989. Born in Frederick on March 27, 1924, he was a son of the late Harriet Rhoderick.

Icey proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WW II. He was retired as a painter at Fort Detrick. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Eagles Club and the Francis Scott Key American Legion Post # 11. He was an avid Orioles, Ravens and Maryland Terps fan. He had a great love for his family and especially enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren playing sports. His family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff and care givers at Citizens.

Surviving is one son, Ike Rhoderick and wife Cheri, of Frederick, two daughters-in-law, Debra and Lynn Rhoderick, both of Hagerstown, grandchildren, William Butch Rhoderick, Stacey Orye and Chad, Amanda Rhoderick and Kenneth, Michelle Haller and Keith, Melissa Owens and Doug, Andrew Rhoderick and Amber, Brian Rhoderick and Scott Rhoderick and many great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Gary Paul Rhoderick and David Michael Rhoderick, one brother and his wife, Irving E. "Andy" Rhoderick and Mary.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., on Thursday, August 4, 2016, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Friday, August 5, 2016, in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home. The Rev. Burnis D. Barrett, will officiate. Interment will be in the Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.

Ike: So sorry to hear of your father's death. A good guy with a great sense of humor. Enjoyed working with him during the early to mid 1970's when I had summer employment at the Frederick Cancer Research Center. Icey also worked many years with my my dad at Ft. Detrick and the Frederick Cancer Research Center. Again, my sincere condolences to you and your family.
