Edna Wright Obituary
She was born June 30, 1926, in Ridgeville, MD, daughter of the late Samuel Steel, Sr. and Edna Pope Steel. She was the wife of James Kenneth Wright who predeceased her in 2006.
Edna May graduated from Mt. Airy High School in 1944. She worked at Ridgeville Nurseries for many years and in food service at the Mt. Airy Middle School cafeteria retiring in 1988. She was a member of Marvin Chapel UMC and had attended St. James Episcopal Church in her childhood.
She is survived by sisters-in-law, Joy Harshman of Bradenton, FL, Rose Harne of Mt. Airy, MD, and Maurine Steel of Frederick, MD; nephews, Samuel (Debbie) Steel, Allan (Kim) Steel, Christopher (Lisa) Steel, Westly Steel, Todd Steel, James (Judy) Harshman, Ray (Marcie) Harne, John Wright, and Don Ray Wright; nieces, Kathleen (Wade) Butt, Pamela (Don) Divis, Faith Williams, Denise (Robert) Barter, Patricia (Charles) Lund, Cherie Fitch; and many great-nieces and nephews. She is also survived by special friends Terry, Ronnie and Tom Gue.
She was preceded in death by brother, Samuel Steel Jr., and sisters, Betty Jane Steel and Alice Elizabeth (Libby) Sullivan.
Visitation will be held Sunday, May 3 from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Marvin Chapel United Methodist Church, 5101 Woodville Road, Mt. Airy. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, May 4 at the church with Reverends Earl Mason and Paul Warnken officiating. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Cancer Society.
