Eric Shafer

1972 - 2024

Eric Irving Shafer, 51, of Hagerstown, Maryland passed away unexpectedly on March 21, 2024.

Born November 17, 1972, Eric was the son of the late Jean Irving Shafer and Richard W. Shafer. Eric is survived by his sister, Branin Shafer Delaney, nephew, Liam and niece, Caitlin; his brother, Steve Shafer and wife Lynn; his maternal aunt and uncle Judith (Irving) and John Rudy, cousin, Michele (Rudy) Taylor and husband Mark, his paternal aunts Karen (Shafer) Koogle, Bette Shafer and Robyn Shafer, along with numerous cousins and other extended family.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Louise and Adrian (Sonny) Irving, his paternal grandparents Helen and F. Davis Shafer, uncles F. Davis Shafer, II., John Shafer, Clyde (Skip) Shafer, Larry Koogle, Doug Sine, Aunt Su Sine, and brother-in-law, Sean Delaney.

He is also survived by his long-time best friend, Paula Zimmerman, and her husband Mike. Eric also leaves behind his beloved cat, Blu.

Eric grew up in Middletown, Maryland where he played football and was part of the 1991 graduating class of Middletown High School. He was a roofer by trade and did commercial/residential industry work. Eric was a diehard Redskins fan, enjoyed going to concerts, music festivals, drawing, skiing, and motor cross. Eric was hard working and loved his family. After losing his mother at a young age, Eric turned to his family for support, especially his Aunt Judy who became a mother figure in his life. Eric's kind, caring nature and humor will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday April 6th at Thompson Harman Funeral Home, 31 E. Main Street, Middletown, Maryland at 2pm. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service. Private burial will be held at a later date.
