George Poddo Obituary

George J. Poddo, 76, of Frederick, MD, passed away surrounded by loving family on June 10, 2025. Born September 22, 1948, in Palmerton, PA, he was the son of George and Marjorie Barrons Poddo.

George retired from IBM after 40 years and worked as an usher for the Frederick Keys. He was a Maryland Master Gardener, lifelong Orioles fan, and loved hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joanie; daughter Lori Sawyer (Cary); sons Michael (Cindy) and Stephen; sister Maria of Palmerton, PA; brothers Michael, Thomas, Stephen, Patrick, and Paul Wilson; and 11 grandchildren who knew him as "Poppy." He was predeceased by daughter Stacey (2020) and sisters Ann, Margie, and Patti.

A service will take place at St. Timothy's Catholic Church, located at 8651 Biggs Ford Road Walkersville Maryland, 21793, on Saturday June 21st, starting at 10 am with a reception to follow at 11am. George Poddo

George was a great husband and father ..He was a wonderful basketball coach in our St. Mary´s Wappingers Falls Catholic Youth Basketball program.My Sister Jean played for him in second grade and achieved so much.I was grateful to George.He was a true sportsman and he had a rich athletic life. Prayers for Joan and his family.
