Harry Bohrer Obituary

Mr. Harry Bohrer, 92, lifelong resident of Mt. Airy, died Friday, February 15, 2013 at Frederick Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of nearly 60 years to Joyce Lorraine Bohrer. They were married on September 24, 1953.

Born April 7, 1920 in Mt. Airy, he was the son of the late Anna Pearl Bohrer (nee Harry) and Benjamin Franklin Bohrer, Sr.

At the age of 16, Harry went to work for H. Deets Warfield, Sr., and held the position of greasing and washing cars. He then moved on to reconditioning used cars, and ended with the position of shop foreman.

He was drafted and departed for the war on Christmas Eve 1944 by way of ship. He served for 23 months during WWII and he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. Upon his Honorable Discharge from the war, he returned to Mt. Airy and established Bohrer Motors, Inc., with the guidance of his mentor and good friend, Mr. Warfield. Harry was president; his brother, Ben, was vice president; and their sister, Sheila served as secretary of the company.

For the next 31 years (1947-1978), they ran their family business while holding an International Dealership and selling International products such as trucks, school buses, and later Cub Cadets. Mr. Warfield was a good man to Harry, and he gave him many opportunities. Nevertheless, Harry worked hard for what he achieved in life.

In addition to being longtime residents of Mt. Airy, Harry and his wife enjoyed many good times on their properties on the water in Shady Side, MD, and in Ocean City. Harry loved to hunt, fish, and crab. He loved all of the family dogs that he had over the years. Harry was a devoted family man.

In addition to his wife, Harry is survived by his loving and devoted daughter, Sandy Bohrer Heydemann and her husband, Peter Heydemann; his sisters-in-law, Evelyn Frances Zepp and Barbara Rhinecker; and many nieces and nephews. Harry also will be remembered by many special friends.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 21, 2013 from the funeral home. Officiating will be the Rev. Steve Larsen from Calvary United Methodist Church, Mt. Airy

Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
