Hugh Buchanan Obituary

Hugh Douglas Buchanan, 73, of Boonsboro, died November 9, 2021 at home. He is survived by his beloved wife of 20 years, Boni Buchanan. Born in Greenock, Scotland on August 19, 1948, he was the son of the late Douglas and Pearl Buchanan.

Hugh graduated from Thurmont High School, June 1966, and was a chemistry major at The University of Maryland. He worked as a Purchasing Supervisor for many companies including Honeywell, Medimmune, and Baxter International until his retirement from Rockwell Collins in 2017. He was a member of the United Church of God, Columbia MD. Hugh enjoyed playing guitar, writing and recording original music, playing chess, astronomy and made many beautiful knives. He also loved spending time with his family, writing and presenting sermons and performing his music for the many Churches he served.

In addition to his wife, Hugh is survived by his children: Heather Disher, Pittsburgh, PA, and Scott Buchanan, Salem, Oregon. He is also survived by his brother, Steven K. Buchanan of Tucson, Arizona. He leaves behind grandchildren; Jack Disher, Zoe Disher, Violet Disher, Gwendolyn Buchanan and Romilly Buchanan. He also leaves behind nephews James Buchanan and Steven Buchanan and niece Lindsay Knights.

Hugh was preceded in death by his sister, Valerie Byrd, and Lynda Buchanan, his first wife who died, August,1997.

A memorial service of Hugh's life will take place at 11:00 am November 14, 2021, at Stauffer Funeral Home in Frederick. Steve Buchanan will officiate.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of The James M. Stockman Cancer Center, The Meritus Hospital Emergency Room and Hospice of Washington County for the loving care they provided to Hugh.

I was saddened to see Hugh has moved on to a better place. I was a business acquaintance. For many years Hugh delt with me though his journey with different companies. He was a kind and gentle man who taught me how to act So happy to have know him.

I remember Hugh fondly from our days at Thurmont High and was delighted that he invited me to play bass on a recording of one of his songs several years ago. Love and prayers to Boni and all of his family.

We are so sorry to hear of Hugh's passing. The years have passed quickly since the days when we played softball and went to church together. We grieve with his family, but the memories will keep Hugh alive in out hearts.
