James Kennedy Obituary

Dr. James "Steve" Kennedy, 59, of Boyds, died Wednesday, May 29, at Casey House of Montgomery Hospice, Rockville.

He was the husband of Myra Propst.

Born May 27, 1943, in Cleveland County, N.C., he was the son of Laura Humphreys Kennedy of Shelby, N.C., and the late John Kennedy.

Dr. Kennedy received his bachelor of science degree and his doctorate in pharmacology from the University of North Carolina, where he was class valedictorian and student body president.

He held various positions with the Food and Drug Administration and the National Institutes of Mental Health.

He served as the executive director for the Joint Commission on Prescription Drug Use and most recently held positions with Otsuka America Pharmaceuticals Inc. and PSI International, Inc.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by three children, Amy Kennedy of St. Augustine, Fla., and Brendon Kennedy and Devin Kennedy, both of Germantown; one brother, Jack H. Kennedy of Shelby, N.C.; and one grandchild, Amira Kennedy.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, June 15, at the Jay Cinque residence, 22300 Slidell Road, Boyds. The Rev. Merritt Ednie, of Boyds Presbyterian Church, will officiate.
