Janet Vasco Obituary

Janet Darcey Vasco, 80, of Point of Rocks, died of complications from pneumonia at Frederick Memorial Hospital on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008.

Born Oct. 31, 1928 in Washington, D.C., she was a seventh-generation Washingtonian. She was the daughter of the late Stanley Roderick Darcey and Hazel Pearl Harrison. She married Dominick Paul Vasco in June 1948.

Janet was a local artist. She was awarded a scholarship to the Corcoran Art School. After graduating, she worked as a commercial artist for Sears Roebuck.

Later, she taught ceramics and doll making for a local organization. She displayed and sold her art work at local community fairs.

Her husband of 55 years died Feb. 6, 2004. Her son, Paul, died July 1999 from pancreatic cancer.

Survivors include a daughter, Victoria Vasco Thompson; sister, Nancy Darcey Rudy; three grandsons; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Janet's family would like to thank all of Janet's caretakers.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19, at the Keeney and Basford, P.A., Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be make in care of the family to Victoria Vasco, 106 E. Church St., Frederick, MD 21701. Condolences may be shared with the family by going to KeeneyBasford.com.
