Jo Plichta Obituary

Jo Ann Twilley Plichta, 84, of West Chester, PA, passed May 30, 2025. Born May 1, 1941, in Salisbury, MD, she was the only child of Martha & Joseph Twilley.

Jo Ann devoted her life to education. She graduated from Wicomico High School (1959), earned a B.A. in Early Childhood Education (1963) and an M.S. in Reading (1986), both from Hood College. Her passion teaching shaped her 40+ year career and inspired many students.

She taught in Montgomery County and was a substitute for Frederick County Public Schools. She served as Children's Librarian for Frederick County Library and retired from Loudoun County Schools after 14 years as a reading specialist.

Jo Ann married David Plichta June 26, 1965; their marriage lasted 51 years until his passing in 2016.

She is survived by son Scott Plichta and his wife, Dr. Sharon O'Toole Plichta; grandchildren Matthew (23), Emily (23), Abby (21), Benjamin (16); nieces Heather McCubbin and Kathleen Balakier; sister-in-law Gail Heimes (Gary); and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband and grandchildren Bethany and Daniel.

Jo Ann lived in Salisbury, Burkittsville, and Frederick, MD. She moved to West Chester, PA, to be near family.

A memorial service will be held at St. Martha's Manor, Downingtown, PA, June 28, 2025, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to your local library are requested. Jo Ann Plichta

I'm sorry to see this. We were neighbors in the same group of townhouses on Consett. (We were 31). Condolences to the family. I'm glad she will be reunited with David! She was such a kind person! May your memories of Jo Ann live forever within you!
