John Prendergast Obituary

Mr. John R. Prendergast, 79, of West Palm Beach, Fla., died Tuesday, Feb. 17 at Wellington Regional Medical Center following a sudden illness.

Born Feb. 20, 1924, in Lockport, N.Y., he was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Prendergast was a longtime resident of the Palm Beach area. He was a eucharistic minister at Mary Immaculate Catholic Church and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus 2075.

As a general contractor, he was the building superintendent at Jelac Corp. in Florida, a member of the Buffalo Builders Association in Buffalo, N.Y. and a member of the NAHB.

Mr. Prendergast enjoyed golfing, fishing and, most of all, spending time with his family.

He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth Meyers of West Palm Beach, Fla.; dear father of Mary Koenig and husband Ernest, Patricia George and husband Michael, John Prendergast and wife Jill, Timothy Prendergast and wife Jeannie, Eileen Kozyra and husband Timothy, Steven Prendergast, Daniel Prendergast and wife Mari, and Paul Prendergast; dear grandfather of Erich, Jonathan, Christine, Sonia, Michael, Marianne, Jason, Ryan, Matthew, John, Shannon, Steven, Jamie, Emily and Zachariah; and brother of Michael Prendergast and the late Thomas Prendergast, Martin Prendergast and Mary Alice Truax.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19 at Quattlebaum Funeral Home, 1201 S. Olive Ave., West Palm Beach, Fla. 33401, with a scripture service to be held at 7:30 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 20 at Mary Immaculate Catholic Church, West Palm Beach, Fla.

Interment will follow at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Cemetery, Royal Palm Beach, Fla.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mr. Prendergast's memory to a youth group of your choice.
