Joyce Storks Obituary

Joyce Lee (Wachter) Storks, 83, of Martinsburg, WV, passed away on December 1, 2025, after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. She was the wife of Edwin Storks III for almost 64 years.

Joyce was born in Johnsville, MD on August 19, 1942. She was the daughter of the late Gerald Franklin and Caroline Isabelle (Boone) Wachter.

She was a 1960 graduate of Frederick High School. Joyce grew up on a small farm outside of Johnsville with her parents and four sisters. After her marriage, she moved to Ulm, Germany, while her husband was stationed there with the U.S. Army. They returned to the states after Eddie's military service concluded. They lived in Frederick, Walkersville, and Olney. They then moved to Little River, SC, when Eddie, a lifelong home builder, opened Storks Construction. They lived there for 25 years until they retired in 2017 and moved to West Virginia to be closer to their Maryland family.

Joyce was a licensed daycare provider when her children were young and then worked in retail. She retired from JC Penney's. Joyce and her sisters were devoted to their parents and made sure they were well taken care of during their final years.

Besides her parents, Joyce was predeceased by sister Shirley Grossnickle and her husband Butch, sister Brenda Scheel, and brother-in-law Donald Weller. She is survived by her son Jeffrey Storks and wife Michele and her daughter Lisa Storks Hildebrand and husband Gary. She is also survived by five grandchildren - Christopher Storks, Sarah Hildebrand (Blake), Laura Hildebrand-Rodriguez (husband Ben), Josie Holley (husband Clinton), and Grant Hildebrand (fiancee Amanda Campbell); and six great-grandchildren-Cannon, Zoa, Lottie, Sebastian, Axel, and CJ. She also leaves behind two sisters, Sharon Wood and Geraldine Weller, a brother-in-law Dick Scheel, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

When they were raising their children, Joyce and Eddie enjoyed fishing, crabbing, and vacations to Cherry Grove, SC. Joyce loved flower gardening and taking care of her yard and home, which was always immaculate! Known as Grammy to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she was known for her eclair cakes, pumpkin rolls, slippery potpie, sweet tea, and red velvet cakes.

Joyce was always supportive of her children's sports. She became involved with the Walkersville High School Athletic Boosters when Jeff and Lisa were playing high school sports. When Eddie was coaching Jeff's baseball teams, she always kept the official scorebook.

Hartzler Funeral Home is handling cremation services. At a later date, a celebration of life will be held. Donations can be made to Hospice of Washington County, 1710 Underpass Way, Suite 300, Hagerstown, MD 21740 - www.hospiceofwc.org.

Special thanks to the wonderful and caring staff at Viva Senior Living in Hagerstown where Joyce lived for the last five months. Also, thanks to the nurses and staff from Hospice of Washington County. Joyce Storks

Dear Eddie, I´m not sure you will remember me, but you and my brother, Bill, played Little League baseball together for many years. Much time has passed and I recall your mom had told me you were located in SC when I would see her working at JCPenney. You and Joyce certainly had a full and very happy life together that will sustain you in the years ahead. I hope you are in good health. Please know I am thinking of you and your family at this time of loss. With sincere sympathy.
