Kenneth Kern Obituary

Kenneth Leroy Kern, "The Chef", of Hagerstown, MD, passed away Monday, November 7, 2016 at Meritus Medical Center. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the son of the late Henry and Bernadette (Diethorn) Kern. Kenneth served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a baseball player with Boston Red Sox and Pittsburgh Pirates. For over 30 years, he was employed with Beaver Creek Country Club as a chef. He was previously employed with Marriott Corp as the Executive Chef where he had the opportunity to prepare dinner for several presidents. He owned his catering business "Kern Catering" in Pittsburgh, PA. Kenneth is survived by seven daughters, Kathleen Warfield, Kimberly Anderson, Kristina Schultz, Karla Boss, Karen Voellinger, Kelly Kern, Klaudine Radford and their families; and five sons, Kenneth Kern, Kevin Kern, Keith Kern, Kyle Kern, Kerry Knott and their families. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Marie Kern; and two brothers, Norman and Louis Kern. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Washington County Junior Golf Association at Beaver Creek, 9535 Mapleville Road, Hagerstown, MD 21740.
