Luke Bartlett Obituary

Luke Clemens Bartlett, 20, died on Friday, September 4 as a result of an automobile accident. Born on December 1, 1994, he was a son of Keith Bartlett and Elizabeth (Leibsly) Bartlett.

Luke was a 2013 graduate of Oakdale High School, where he played soccer for 3 years on the varsity team and was on the varsity wrestling team. Luke had a heart of gold. He was very thoughtful and giving. He could light up a room with his smile and wit and he positively impacted so many lives in so many ways. Luke's gifts were the most thoughtful and generous always with a special, personal touch. His hugs were memorable – so strong and heartfelt. Luke was a sports enthusiast and loved any kind of competitive sport, from soccer to football, from poker to hockey. He was a huge Redskins fan, but rooted for all teams. Luke always had a fearless spirit and was very confident, always seeing the bright side of a situation. In addition to sports, he loved fishing, swimming and boating on Lake Linganore with his friends. Luke was preparing to enlist in the United States Army and one day be an engineer. Luke was a true friend in every sense of the word. He was always there to listen with a compassionate heart and willing to give the shirt off his back. Luke loved his family with all his heart. He will be sorely missed by family and many of his friends and their parents, including special friends Nick Preston, Josh Loveless, Jonah Loveless, John Bush and Will Thornhill. Most of all Luke will be dearly missed by his family, who are heartbroken by his passing but know that he is soaring with the angels and probably making a party out of it.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother Derek, wife Andrea and nephew Derek Jr., and sisters Rachel and Emily. He is also survived by maternal grandparents Franklin Leibsly and Roselyn Radcliffe, and many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and extended family members. He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents Frank and Joan Bartlett.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 10 from 1-3 and 5-8 PM at Keeney and Basford PA Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick.

A private ceremony and burial will take place Friday and Saturday mornings for immediate family and close friends.

The family invites all to attend a Celebration of Luke's Life on Saturday, September 12, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at Monocacy Valley Church (across from Oakdale Middle School) at 9861 Old National Pike, Ijamsville, MD. All are welcome to wear their favorite sports jersey or cap or any other sportswear and bring their favorite comfort food where Luke's joy of life will be remembered.

So others may benefit from Luke's passing, the family suggests memorial contributions to Mother's Against Drunk Driving (M.A.D.D.), 511 E. John Carpenter Freeway, Suite 700, Irving, TX 750; National MS Society, P.O. Box 4527, New York, NY 10163 or to Make-A-Wish Foundation, 4742 N. 24th Street, Suite 400, Phoenix, AZ 85016.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. With the thought of Luke soaring, this quote came to mind:

"In one of the stars I shall be living. In one of them I shall be laughing. And so it will be as if all the stars were laughing, when you look at the sky at night."
