Marilynn Riviere Obituary

Mrs. Marilynn Himes Riviere, 77, of Aiken, S.C., formerly of Frederick, died Wednesday, Sept. 2, at her residence.

A native of Canton, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Ohio Congressman Joseph Hendrix Himes and Eilleen Canfield Himes.

She was an Episcopalian.

She was raised at the family's Prospect Hall estate, located along U.S. 340, which now houses St. John's Literary Institute.

She was producer and hostess of the first animal television show in Washington, D.C.; founder of the Tail Waggers Club; and a former director of the Aiken SPCA.

She was a life-long equestrienne and on the board of trustees of Aiken Training Track, which has produced several champion racehorses.

She was a property developer in Maryland and Aiken and renovated and maintained property in downtown Aiken.

She was an original member of Whirly Girls Women Helicopter Pilots and taught flying during World War II for the armed services. In 1978, she represented the United States at the World Helicopter Championships in Vitebsk, Russia.

She was a current sponsor of Australian Olympic gold medal winner Phillip Dutton.

She was a life member of the Sulgrave Club in Washington, D.C., and the Green Boundary Club in Aiken; a life trustee at Hitchcock Foundation; and a member of the Aiken Driving Club.

She is survived by two sons, Scott Riviere of Miami, Fla., and Rhett Riviere of Aiken; and two grandchildren, Ashley and Camden Riviere.

Arrangements were handled by George Funeral Home, Aiken.
