Merle Baker Obituary

Mr. Merle F. Baker, 74, of 15310 Summit Farm Drive, Blue Ridge Summit, Pa., died Saturday, Jan. 18, at his home.

He was the husband of Carmen D. Davis Baker. They were married July 17, 1948, in Hagerstown. They lived on Highfield Road in Cascade before moving to their present residence in June 2002.

Born Aug. 6, 1928, in Highfield, he was the son of the late Harry D. and Elsie M. Willard Baker. He lived his early life in the Highfield area.

He attended school in Cascade and Smithsburg.

He worked at Waynesboro Knitting Mill, Waynesboro, Pa., as a machine operator for 28 years, and retired in 1986. He then worked for a short time at Thurmont Shoe Factory, Thurmont.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking and baking.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters, Nancy K. Bigelow and husband Denny of Mercersburg, Pa., Lori A. Flohr and husband Denny of Cascade, and Tammy J. Duncan and husband William of Chambersburg, Pa.; five grandchildren; one sister, Carrie E. Dayhoff of Hamilton, Ohio; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one son, Steven W. Baker, who died in 1974; two sisters, Edith Rock and Evelyn Woodring; and two brothers, Kenneth Baker and Harold Baker.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, with the Rev. Eugene M. Kline officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services Wednesday, but there will be no public viewing.

Interment will be in Bethel Church Cemetery, Cascade.
