Merrillyn Campbell Barney, 87, of Adamstown, MD passed away Monday, May 19, 2025 with her daughters Jennifer and Valerie holding her hands. She died at Buckingham's Choice, her home for the past 10 years. Born in Hornell, NY, she was the daughter of Robert Campbell and Anna Merrill Campbell and spent her growing-up years in Alfred, NY. She fought pancreatic cancer bravely for 1 year.
She will forever be loved by her daughters, Jennifer Barney Duggan (Peter) of Inistioge, Ireland and Valerie Lynn Hlavacek (Nick) of Huntersville, NC. Also surviving are her granddaughters Faith Evelyn and Natalie Campbell Hlavacek of NC and Grace and Emma Hlavacek of CA. She will be greatly missed by her brother Robert Campbell and his wife Sally of Clover, SC and her brother-in-law Richard Barney and his partner Audrey Wisbar of Pittsburgh, PA. Additionally, she will be forever remembered by nieces Heather Campbell and Bill, Holly Campbell Thompson and Rachel Barney Carter and Scott and nephews Robert Stephen Campbell and Brian Barney and Julieann. She is also survived by great nieces Joy Thompson and Katherine Barney and great nephews Matthew and Bradley Thompson and Colin Barney.
Merrillyn spent her high school years at Alfred Almond Central School in Almond, NY, Class of 1955. She later graduated from University of Rochester in Rochester, NY, Class of 1959. She began her teaching career in Rochester, NY and later taught at Ramey Air Force Base in Puerto Rico and Frankfurt Air Force Base in Germany.
She met James Robert Barney of Montclair, NJ in Puerto Rico and married him on April 29, 1967. She was a doting stay at home wife and mother and kept busy with volunteering at church, the PTA, the Garden Club and many other good causes.
Merrillyn will forever be remembered for being a devoted mother to Jennifer and Valerie and a kind, caring and loving wife. She cherished family get-togethers and time spent with her many friends. She had a generous sprit and brought lots of joy and laughter to those around her.
Merrillyn's family would like to thank the nursing staff at Buckingham's Choice and in their honor, donations are being requested to the Employee Appreciation Fund via the BC Residents Association.
