Paul Perkins Obituary

Mr. Paul Mifflin Perkins, 89,of Sykesville, died September 3, 2012, at his home.

Paul was born January, 27, 1923, in Baltimore. He was the son of Mifflin Perkins and Katharine Brown Perkins and the husband to Patricia Lee Garrison Perkins, his wife of 64 years.

Paul was a quiet, intellectually curious man. During WWII, he was a Flight Radio Officer for the Overseas Air Transport Command. Their mission was to carry wounded home and provide supplies to European and African theatres of war. After the war, he worked as a Flight Radio Officer with TWA and flew international flights on the famous propeller tri-tail Constellations out of Idlewild (JFK) Airport in NY. His travels took him to Europe, Africa and Asia. He left aviation and began a new career in the broadcast industry, first in radio with WMAR and then in television with WBAL. At the time of his retirement from WBAL television in 1980, he was an Engineering Supervisor.

Paul was a devoted husband and father and sought to live in harmony with nature. He was an avid hiker, camper and sailor. After retirement, he traveled widely throughout the United States, Mexico, Europe, and South Africa. He returned time and again to England, Maine and to Longboat Key, Florida. His beloved wife, Pat, was always at his side.

Despite these worldwide travels, his favorite place was his Sykesville home, the house he built in 1960 for his wife, sons and a string of Scottish

Terriers. For years he sup- ported his wife's passion to help in the community, mainly with the Girl Scouts and the United Way. Paul was surrounded in life by his lov- ing family, longtime friends, and wonderful neighbors. He leaves a lifetime of memories to comfort loved ones in the days to come.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Mifflin and Katharine Perkins, and sisters, Katharine Perkins Tymeson and Eloise Perkins Tyler.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia, sons Stephen Perkins, of Harper's Ferry, West Virginia; Douglas Perkins of Columbia, Maryland; and Erik Perkins of Charles Town, West Virginia; daughters-in- law Frances Perkins, Nancy Perkins, and Lori Perkins, grandchildren Daniel Perkins, Jennifer Shultz, Gregory Perkins, Katharine Perkins, Erika Bryn Perkins and Anna Perkins, and several great- grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the Sykesville Volunteer Fire Department Building fund or your local Hospice.
