Ralph Rhodes Obituary

Ralph Lewis Rhodes, 81, of Berryville, Va., died Wednesday, January 12, 2005, at his residence.

Mr. Rhodes was born September 12, 1923, in Purcellville, Va., the son of David Oliver and Bessie Fletcher Rhodes.

He was a spotter and manager in dry cleaners for 40 years.

He was a member of the Winchester Church of God. He was leader of Gospel Rhodes and a member of Higher Ground gospel groups.

He married Mary F. Rhodes on June 21, 1940, in Leesburg, Va.

Surviving with his wife are two sons, James L. Rhodes of Winchester, Va. and Lawrence "Fuzzy" Rhodes of Charles Town, W.Va.; four daughters, Peggy J. Hash of Berryville, Va., Elma S. Jernigan of Cheltenham, Thelma L. Ryman of Gore, Va. and Mary F. Fox of Martinsburg, W.Va.; 21 grandchildren and 43 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, R. Sydney Rhodes; three sisters, Bessie L. Sutler, Dora Lanham, and Mary Leedy; and a brother, David Rhodes.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, January 15, 2005, at the Winchester Church of God, Winchester with Pastor Darrell Waller officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Berryville.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Anthony Rhodes, James Rhodes, Billy Rhodes, Brian Hash, Dennis Hash, Richard Moore, Robert Moore, Roger Ryman, Jr., Jeff Dailey, John Dailey, Lawrence Rhodes II, and Ralph Rhodes.

The family will receive friends 7--9 p.m. Friday evening at Enders and Shirley Funeral Home in Berryville, Va.

Memorial contributions may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork St., Winchester, VA 22601.
