Robert Allwein Obituary

Robert C. Allwein, 58, of New Market Maryland died on June 30, 2023, after a short but courageous battle with Pancreatic Cancer.

Born in Lebanon, PA to Robert and Catherine Allwein. He was the beloved husband of 32 years to the love of his life Stacy Kopper Allwein, proud father to his daughter Emily and son Michael (Jacklyn) and loving grandfather to his three granddaughters Adriana, Amira and Malia. Family was the cornerstone and foundation of his life. Bob was a kind friend to all who knew him, and he lived a life well worth remembering. While his body was tired, his spirit was full of grateful appreciation and a fearless drive to be present for the people he loved. Bob was the ultimate caregiver, and his legacy will live on in those he cared for most. Bob went out of his way to make certain that everyone in his life felt encouraged, supported and valued. In his short 58 years, his impact was deeply felt by his family, friends and those he encountered through his successful real estate investing business and dedication to the community in which he lived.

Bob is preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Susan Kopper, brothers-in-law, Michael and Shawn Kopper. In addition to his parents, Bob is also survived by his four siblings Russell Allwein (Stacey), Chrissy Sweers (Don), Cathy Allwein and Tricia Allwein. He was the proud and loving uncle to Ryan & Casey Allwein, Nick & Joey Fontaine, Colton & Aidan De La Pena, Shawn, Brandon & Haley Kopper, Zac & Cassie Sweers and a beloved son in law to Michael Kopper, Sr.

The entire Allwein family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to Dr. Laheru and the dedicated professional staff at Johns Hopkins who cared deeply for Bob and were heroic in their efforts.

The family will receive friends on Thursday July 6, 2023, from 2 - 4 & 6 - 8 at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Homes, P.A., 106 E. Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, on Friday, July 7, 2023, at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, 9190 Church Street, Libertytown, MD 21791. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Phoenix Foundation of Maryland 117 E. I only knew Bob a short time. I sold my house as is in Damascus and he and his team turned it into a dream. He was such a nice guy. I'm glad I was able to meet him and do business with him. Rest in peace.

Megan and I are so very sorry to learn of Bob's battle with cancer and passing. It truly seems like yesterday when we all got to know each other in our Summerfield townhomes back in the early 90's. I have a very fond memory of Bob and me driving my blue Ford Ranger throughout the backroads of Lake Linganore. We wish Stacy and family a peaceful time of remembrance and solace.

Our Dear Stacy, family and friends, Celebrating Bob’s life is so very easy—he made a huge, larger than life (ie Sasquatchy) Big Footprint on us all! No wonder we wished him to continue on his earthly adventures! It’s like a suspenseful and exciting TV series that ends abruptly and tragically in the middle.

Our Dear Bob, you passed much too young. You were just getting started with so many ideas and so much joy to come. It’s incredibly heart-breaking. You were a larger than life, yet totally humble person. Modest, kind and humble. Quiet but when you spoke, people listened. You were a mentor to many and you yourself had a passion for self-improvement!! Whenever I mentioned a book or a podcast, you were kinda ‘been there, done that’ , but in a really sweet, unassuming way. Adorable. You made us all feel good. That’s a gift.

Bob, we love you like a brother. We did so much together—business & pleasure. And yet we yearn for more. More flips, more projects, more lunches at out of the way bagel shops, more dinners with you & Stacy in Mexican restaurants (that we occupied for hours), more bike rides, more ‘chats’ from over the pond! We will never again hear, “Hello Switzerland!!” Makes us really really sad. It’s just a tragedy.

After Bob’s diagnosis he wrote us the following:

‘I'm not going to sit around and stew on bad thoughts. I'll stay as active as possible. You know me. I'm an action taker and that's how I'm dealing with this. Head on and whatever it takes. We are going to a big St. Patti day party with a group of friends this afternoon. It will be good to get out and socialize a little. I do appreciate the encouragement from you and the rest of my friends & family. I have a new appreciation for people lol. This helps me to stay positive too! You’ll get a kick out of this: I made dinner tonight: impossible meat balls, no sugar Al vodka sauce and Chick pea pasta! I’m a vegan! LOL’
That’s Bob!! A man of action. Positive, funny & optimistic!!!

We are very grateful that Stacy and the family were generous with all friends and family so we could spend meaningful time with Bob before he passed. We were able to tell him what an honor it was to be his friend and much much more. It was a privilege to speak to him, to hold his hands, and to tell him we love him in his final hours. An incredibly moving privilege that we’ll never forget.

When I think of Bob, I think of a faithful and loyal person who really cared about others, especially his children and grandchildren. He was a family man who was proud of both his kids equally. We always heard updates on Emily and her teaching and Michael and his career. (An update on the donkeys, too.) Oh wow the joy he had with Malia’s birth and he was crazy about the fun he had with Adrianna and Amira. He totally adored Stacy—and who wouldn’t—and he was truly her biggest fan. He had future plans and adventures but he also loved the people he was with in the moment. He was present & he valued those around him. He made people feel valued, too.

We are honored to have been Bob’s friends. It was a great ride.

With immense gratefulness for having known Bob,

Love

Uncle Bob as I always called him because he was like family to me. He always talked to me like I was his family. He mentor me on a lot of things, when I had any questions about anything he was always there. We used to plan lunch quite often and call each another to cancel. I wish we didn't cancel as much as we did but I knew uncle Bob was only a phone call or a text away. I'm gonna miss him but I'm will remember him even more. RIP uncle Bob.
