Robert Scheer Obituary

Dr. Robert "Bob" Scheer of Middletown, MD, passed away on Monday December 16, 2024, of a sudden illness. He was born to Wilmer P. Scheer and Louisa (O'Donnoghue) Scheer February 22, 1947. He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Scheer, his daughter Meredith Esders of Baltimore and grandchildren Emma and Nathan, his daughter Natalie Silber (Len) of Gaithersburg and grandchildren Benjamin and Lucas, and his sister Katy Emond (Leo) of Glenwood. He is also survived by so many loved nieces and nephews, spread across Maryland and the United States.

Before Bob met the love of his life, he served in the US Army 1968-1969 with NATO forces in Vicenza, Italy. He made lifelong friends with his fellow servicemen, and was so pleased to reconnect recently with old army buddies. Bob's professional career, dedicated to public service, was spent at the Frederick County Mental Health Department, beginning as a staff psychologist in 1976, and retiring in 2009 after serving as the director for 18 years. In his personal life, Bob was an avid photographer, woodworker, guitarist, and traveler. Over their 53 years together, Bob and Lin traveled by car to all 48 contiguous states and many Canadian provinces, explored the Great Pyramids of Giza, climbed Machu Picchu, sailed down the Seine and Rhine Rivers, and wandered many cities and the countryside in Europe, their favorite place to visit being Italy. They made great Frederick area friends on their travels to Morocco and Spain. One of Bob's passions was jazz guitar, and Bob and Lin embraced their "empty nest" by discovering the Friday night Smithsonian Jazz Cafe. They made many friends in the jazz world, and often found themselves socializing into early morning hours in Washington DC with some of the world's renowned jazz musicians.

As proud as he was to earn his PhD in psychology, to design and construct his family home in Middletown, and to experience all that life offered him, Bob was the proudest of his family. You could not have a conversation with Bob without hearing about his wife, daughters, or grandchildren.

There will be no public service at this time. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made in Bob's name to the Frederick Rescue Mission. Robert Scheer
