Robert Weedon Sr.

Mr. Robert Douglas Weedon Sr., 83, of Frederick, died Thursday, Aug. 28, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

He was the husband of Ruth Rebecca Weedon for 64 years.

Born June 12, 1920 in Frederick, he was the son of the late Joseph and Daisy Weedon.

Mr. Weedon retired from Fort Detrick after 20 years of service. He served in World War II.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1622, where he served as Grand Knight for three terms.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Robert D. Weedon Jr. and wife Anna of Texas, and Joseph A. Weedon Sr. and wife Debbie of Frederick; one sister, Catherine Sappington and husband Charles; two brothers, Dawson Weedon and wife Catherine of Frederick and Richard Weedon and wife Barbara of Emmitsburg; three brothers-in-law, Carl Brooks of Frederick, Robert Brooks of Atlantic City, N.J., and David Watts of Frederick; two sisters-in-law, Jane Ross and husband Byron of Frederick and Eleanor Brooks of Frederick; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

He will be remembered by godchildren Shelby J. Byrd and husband Richard of Frederick, Evelyn Colon and Edith Lopez of New York, and Velma Davis Hayes, Rachel Matthews and Hayward Watts of Hagerstown.

He was preceded in death by one son, Charles L. Weedon; two sisters, Clesta Hagy and Anna Weedon; three brothers, Lee Weedon, Gene Weedon and Joe Weedon; one brother-in-law, William L. Brooks; two sisters-in-law, Helen E. Brooks and Lillian M. Brooks.

Friends may call from noon to 7 p.m. at Gary L. Rollins Funeral Home, 110 W. South St., on Tuesday, Sept. 2. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. with Rosary at 8 p.m.

The Rev. Wayne G. Funk will officiate.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3 at St. John the Evangelist Church, 116 E. Second St., Frederick.

Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.
