Ruby W. Brown

1924 - 2026

Ruby Alesa Wisner Brown, age 101, formerly of Walkersville, passed away peacefully at Somerford Assisted Living in Frederick on Wednesday, January 21, 2026.

Born July 30, 1924, in Urbana, she was the daughter of the late Charles Samuel Wisner and Goldie M. Stone Wisner. She was the wife of the late Russell L. Brown, who predeceased her in 2013.

She was also predeceased by her brothers, Charles Wisner Jr., Paul Wisner (Mildred), and Donald Wisner (Etta Mae).

Ruby is survived by her sister-in-law, Ethel Brown; her special cousin, Fern Mercer; her devoted nieces, Ruby Watkins and Sheila Pittinger; numerous nieces and nephews; and her godchild, Suenne Baltzell of Frederick.

Ruby was a 1949 graduate of Walkersville High School. She was employed for 18 years as a secretary and bookkeeper at Southern Farms, Home of Aunt Lucy Hams, in Walkersville. In 1966, she joined her husband in his business, R.L. Brown Plumbing, Heating and Electrical Service, where she worked until retiring together in 2012.

She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Frederick; a longtime active member of the Ladies of the Elks #2277 in Westminster; and a member of the Woodsboro Dance Club and the Walkersville High School Alumni Association.

Ruby enjoyed music and dancing, watching baseball, attending estate sales, antiquing, and spending time with her family.

A visitation will be held at Hartzler Funeral Home, 404 South Main Street, Woodsboro, on Wednesday, January 28, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.

A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, January 29, at 1:00 p.m., with her nephew, Pastor Ron Brown, officiating. Interment will follow at Rocky Hill Cemetery, Woodsboro.
