Sue Mercer Obituary

Sue Ann Mercer, 59, of Middletown, Md., died Wednesday, April 20, 2005 at her home following a courageous short battle with cancer. She was the wife of Larry E. Mercer. They were married for 40 years.

Born October 15, 1945 in Frederick, Md., she was the daughter of the late Allen A. Hartsock and Clara Crummitt Smith. Sue was raised by her aunt and uncle the late Leonard "Joe" Crummitt and Louise Crummitt.

Sue was employed with IBM for 30 years, where she retired in 1997.

She was a life member of the Braddock Heights Vol. Fire Department and was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary AMVETS Post 9 in Middletown. She graduated from Frederick High School in 1963.

She enjoyed antiques, crafts, jewelry making, fishing and reading.

In addition to her husband Larry, she is survived by a loving daughter, Laura Horman and husband Joe of Frederick, Md.; two sisters, Dottie Maske and husband Floyd of Damascus, Md. and Joann Henderson and husband Rick of Westminster, Md. She will also be remembered by her numerous nieces and nephews and all of her special friends.

She is preceded in death by a sister, Janice Crummitt.

The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, Md. on Friday, April 22 from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, April 23 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Leon Dodson officiating.

Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.

A reception will immediately follow graveside services at the AMVETS in Middletown.

Serving as pall bearers will be Doug Abrecht, John Corson, Paul Smith, James Cassell, Chip Lewis and Eddie Steley. Honorary pall bearers will be Jimmy Palmer and Floyd Maske.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Braddock Heights Vol. Fire Co., 6715 Jefferson Blvd., Braddock Heights, MD 21714 or to the AMVETS Post 9, Green Street, Middletown, MD 21769.
