Susanne Bohrer Obituary

Susanne passed on November 4, 2025, after a lengthy illness. Born on October 11, 1951, she was raised on a small farm in Carroll County, where she developed a love of the outdoors and horses. She attended the University of Maryland, graduating with a degree in animal science. After graduating, she worked for the Maryland Department of Agriculture. She later worked for several years in real estate, then returned to school and graduated with a nursing degree. She was employed at Western Maryland Hospital until her retirement.

She was married for fifty-three years and is survived by her husband, Shannon. Together, they built Winterbilt, a small farm in Frederick County. Sue had an insatiable desire to learn, including woodworking, gardening, flowers and vegetables, cooking, and stained glass. She made her own apple butter, V-8 juice, hummus, wine, venison jerky, and venison bologna, to name a few. She loved Broadway plays and music. She was an avid reader of a variety of topics, including historical events involving lesser-known people and incidents.

Sue's first love was horses. Her first horse, Dawn, is buried on the farm, as well is Julie (Dawn's daughter) and Shady (Dawn's granddaughter). She owned, rode good horses, and loved her dogs. She often considered herself fortunate to have had so many good animals, including some exceptional barn cats.

She is survived by her husband Shannon, her brother John Smith, two sisters, Cheryle Heyman and JoAnn Bostian, her husband Rodney, and three sister in-laws, Lynn Wayland, Virginia Bohrer, and Hillary Szanto, and her husband Keith. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, including her goddaughter, Morgan Barr.

It seems impossible to describe Sue's impact upon her family, friends, and neighbors. She was outgoing and genuinely concerned with everyone she met. She was authentic; if you knew her, you understood her sincerity. She will be missed.

As per her wishes, there will be a small family gathering for her service. After a morning period, at her request, there will be a gathering to celebrate her life with family, neighbors, and friends. Susanne Bohrer

Susie will be missed.
Effervescent in her smile !
and warm, in the meeting,
even facing this most
daunting of adversaries.
Cancer.
Shannon and Susie both
we´re blessed more than others
in finding their Soulmate.
I will miss her, very much.

Dearest Sue, such a genuinely caring person. She was the person who would build you up with sincere praise. Always positive and smiling. Beautiful inside and out. I wasn't with her very much, but when I was blessed with her presence, I always felt better about my self and accomplishments. Just the nicest. You made people feel good. Rest easy Sue and Thank you. God Bless your family and friends.

Sue was our neighbor. She and her husband, Shannon were among the first to welcome us to the neighborhood, and we are grateful for the kindness and openness extended from the beginning. We came to admire her straightforward honesty, her curiosity, her humor, and her genuine care for others. We hold her memory with respect and affection. Rest in peace, Sue.

As a neighbor, I knew who to be honest and genuinely concerned about others well-being. I often saw her walking with her dog and her friends, and once in a while would catch up with her to chew the fat. I will miss her dearly!
