1945 - 2024

Thomas Leonard McMahon, Jr., passed away peacefully on Friday, July 26, 2024.

Thomas, who went by Tom, was born in Washington, D.C. After some time spent in college, he enlisted in the United States Army and was deployed to Vietnam, where he served from 1968 to 1970 as a Specialist 5th Class (with MACV;SOG). Following his service in the armed forces, Tom spent over four decades working for the United States Postal Service.

Tom had a fondness for sharing stories about his youth and family as well as his time with the USPS. He was an avid historian and had a fondness for rich laughter. He loved The Three Stooges and would often imitate their antics, right before giving you a lesson in European history.

Tom is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Delores McMahon, and twin sister, Mary Margaret McHenry. He is survived by his four children: son Patrick McMahon of Pittsburgh, PA; daughter Kathleen McMahon of Hagerstown, MD; son Rory McMahon and daughter-in-law Cara McMahon of Boonsboro, MD; and daughter Margaret (Clare) McMahon of Grand Rapids, MI. Ever generous, Tom did not stop at one name, giving all of his children fun nicknames.

Tom is also survived by his sister, Patricia and her husband Charlie Clay, a nephew, Darius "Tommy" McHenry, and beloved family friend, Herbert "H.M." Kosack.

A memorial service will be held at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, located at 118 E. 2nd St. in Frederick, Maryland, on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at 11:00 am. Friends and family are welcome to attend and celebrate Tom's memory. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tom's honor to any organization that supports Veterans. Thomas L. McMahon, Jr.
