Ulysses Wiles Obituary

Mr. Ulysses William Wiles, 71, of 2129 Wainwright Court, Frederick, died Friday, Feb. 25, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

He was the husband of Rosella Harman Wiles.

Born March 28, 1928, in Frederick, he was a son of Ira Millard and Elsie Clingan Wiles.

Mr. Wiles graduated from Frederick High School and received his bachelor's degree from the University of Baltimore. Prior to his retirement, he worked with the Comptroller of the Treasury for the state of Maryland.

He was a veteran, having served with the U.S. Army. He was later a member of the Maryland Army National Guard, and prior to his retirement from military service as a lieutenant colonel, was commanding officer of the Pfc. Raymond Flair Army Reserve Center, Frederick.

In earlier years, Mr. Wiles was active in the Seneca Football Association and the Old Timers Football Association. He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Lodge 684, Frederick; and was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church, Frederick.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Michael A. Wiles and wife Bridget of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., and David W. Wiles and wife Mary Ann of Frederick; one sister, Dorothy Wiles of Frederick; four grandchildren, Zachary Wiles, Amy Wiles, Cathryn Wiles and Mary Rose Wiles; three great-grandchildren, Brianna Wilson, Brooke Wilson and Micah Wilson; and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Wiles was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Mastrino; and two grandchildren, Christina Wiles Wilson and Melissa Ann Wiles.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Feb. 28, at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 29, at the funeral home, with Mr. Wiles' pastor, the Rev. David G. Oravec, officiating.

Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.

Those desiring may send memorial donations to Frederick County Chapter, American Heart Association, 1080 W. Patrick St., Frederick, Md. 21703.
