Wesley Urquhart Obituary

Wesley Andrew Urquhart, 71, of Jefferson, Maryland, peacefully entered the Kingdom of Heaven surrounded by his family on January 18, 2025, after a sudden and brief illness.

Wes was born in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Edward Urquhart and Dorothy (Schellenberg) Urquhart. Wes attended Warren Wilson College and University of Maryland. He joined the U.S. Navy and served as a 3rd Class Petty Officer, Aviation Electronics, until honorably discharged.

Wes met the love of his life, Linda, in 1978 in Lanham, Maryland. The two were married in 1982 and raised their family in Frederick County.

Wes worked for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) and their contractors for an incredible 40+ years, serving as a trusted and valued leader within subway railcars and facilities inspection operations.

Wes faithfully attended Grace Community Church of Frederick, Maryland, devoting his time and skills to building maintenance and other projects. He also volunteered extensively with Care Net Pregnancy Center of Frederick, as well as with Frederick County Public Schools as an Advisory Committee Member and Middletown Valley Athletic Association as a Youth Sports Coordinator and Coach.

Everyone who knew Wes knew how much he loved staying active through sports, especially tennis and basketball, a trait which he passed down to his children and grandchildren. He loved spending time playing with his grandchildren and being their Uppa, chasing them around, swimming with them in the pool, teaching them chess, sharing cookies, making pancakes, and sitting quietly on the couch reading their favorite stories.

Wes will always be remembered for his servant's heart, patience and compassion, quiet sense of humor, encyclopedic mind, and the way that he could fix anything that needed to be repaired. He was an exceptional husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, and we will miss Wes every day.

Wes was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Dorothy Urquhart, infant son Kyle, mother-in-law Hilda Linz, father-in-law Herbert Rosenstock, and nephew Michael Smutko. He is survived by his wife Linda; his children Dana Lynn Fogle (Hans Peter), Natalie Marie Winzer (Paul), and Scott Wesley Urquhart (Marissa); his grandchildren Calvin, Clara, Ida, Greta, and Violet; his siblings Jeffrey Urquhart (Sue), Nancy Urquhart-Guerin (Tom), Audrey Kolloff (Larry), Joanne Urquhart (Tim), and Janet Urquhart; his brothers-in-law James Rosenstock and Walter Rosenstock; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews; and beloved pets Annie and Avalon.

A celebration of life with military honors will be held on Friday, February 7, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Grace Community Church of Frederick, 5102 Old National Pike, Frederick, MD 21702. A light meal will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to Care Net Pregnancy Center of Frederick, Grace Community Church of Frederick, or World Vision would be greatly appreciated. Wesley Urquhart

Dear Linda and family. I was saddened to hear of Wes´ passing. The obituary was beautiful. Wes was certainly a gentle man. We met you both when we became neighbors in Eastview. Our children have all grown up and have families of their own.
I will pray for you Linda as you settle all the documrntation & paperwork that follows after a death.
God Bless you and the family during this period. And my prayers for Wes as he is united with the Lord, Jesus Christ.
