Alvin L. "Sonny" Chewning, 73, of Unionville passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2016, in Charlottesville.
The son of the late Layfayette J. Chewning and Katherine Brookman Chewning, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Della M. Dodson.
Alvin is survived by his wife, Barbara Chewning; daughter and son-in-law Tammy and Dale Cardinal; son Timothy Chewning; brothers Thomas and Wayne; and sisters Anne Shifflett and Joyce Hudson.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 27, at Johnson Funeral Home, Locust Grove, with Pastor Terry Green officiating. A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery, Unionville. Pallbearers will be Guy Dodson, Ronnie Dodson, Larry Dodson, Dwayne Chewning, Donnie McGhee and Michael Kestner.
