Cynthia "Cindy" Friend Thomas was called home by the Lord on Tuesday morning, August 20, 2024 at Mary Washington Hospital. Cindy had just turned 75 with family and friends and, as always, brought every ounce of strength she had to celebrate and be celebrated by those around her. Her difficult fight with illness was thankfully short and she was able to pass peacefully and comfortably surrounded by prayers by all who loved her deeply.

Cindy was born in Clintwood, Virginia to Jerry and Ama Friend, but spent much of her childhood growing up at Beauclaire Farm in Fredericksburg, VA. Her experiences with the farm, her competitive horseback riding, and memories with her family gave way to so many beautiful stories passed down to her family through her gifted storytelling. Cindy also led an awe-inspiring career as a nurse at both Carriage Hill and Fredericksburg nursing homes. Her dedication to her residents and bonds with her fellow nurses made Cindy proud of the work she completed each day. In these tales, they will remember the incredibly caring, hard-working, and giving woman that gave love so easily to those she knew.

Cindy will be greatly missed and remembered by her children, Chris (and wife, Penny) Thomas, Laura Lee Tolson, Jon Thomas, and Andy Thomas (and husband, Matt), brothers Bill (and wife, Becki) Friend, and Charles (and son, Alden) Friend. Additionally, her grandchildren, Maggie Thomas McCabe (and husband, Brad), Riley Harrigan (and wife, Sydney), Tucker Tolson, Camden Thomas, and Greer Thomas will continue her legacy for many years to come. They will be forever blessed to know that Cindy was able to meet her two great-grandsons who she loved fiercely but far too briefly, Marshall Harrigan and Callan McCabe. Cindy will be welcomed into the kingdom of heaven by her parents, her husband of forty years, Jerry Thomas, and so many family and friends who will be delighted to reunite with the beloved Cindy Thomas.

Cindy was celebrated with all those who knew her on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at the Chancellor Community Center (7300 Old Plank Road Fredericksburg, VA 22407) from 12:00-4:00pm. Family and friends wore bright colors and brought stories to share as a beautiful woman, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, nurse, and so much more was remembered.
