David Stanley Obituary
June 2, 1952 - November 12, 2024
David Edwin Stanley, 72, of Locust Grove, Virginia passed away on November 12, 2024 at Culpeper Hospital. He was born on June 2, 1952 to parents Carol Frye and John E. Stanley. Growing up in Ohio, Dave excelled in sports, playing basketball and running track and cross country. In 2000 he was inducted into the Canfield High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He continued running at David Lipscomb College in Nashville, Tennessee where he received his degree in accounting. After earning his MBA at The Ohio State University, Dave had a successful corporate career as a Vice President at Bank One in Columbus, Ohio. He had a lifelong interest in cars and boats. In retirement, he enjoyed kayaking, writing music, playing guitar, and spending time with his Lake of the Woods friends. Dave was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth, son-in-law, Mike, and grandchildren Abigail and Luke; as well as sisters Cathryn and Susan and brother Phil. Dave will be laid to rest in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Parkersburg, West Virginia.

David Stanley was an amazing man. I was a plebe at the Naval Academy with him in 1970 in 21st Golf Company/21st Company. He was always full of Joy.

Davis attended USNaval Academy for almost two years. He was my first roommate during the rigorous Plebe Summer and first year. Encouraged me to run! Although he didn´t graduate with us we always have remembered him. He had a great !

My family and I will miss Dave so much. We met while both taking care of our mothers at LOW. He was a generous and helpful friend. We had wonderful kayaking days and nights and game playing and grilling and the music! Thank you Dave for all the songs you wrote for me, particularly " The LaurieLou"!

Dave's friendly, humorous, and adventurous nature led him to be a popular classmate at Canfield High School. The cheerleaders even coaxed him into being a yell leader one year! I wish he had attended our 50th Reunion...... with sympathy

Dave was a dear friend and neighbor, always helpful with household repair advice or lending a tool. We'd chat about our common backgrounds in running marathon, financial careers and interest in kayaking. We had good times on his dock, patio and rec room, listening to him sing and play his guitar, or discuss current events or politics. Dave's place was our hangout spot for our lake buddies. Won't be the same without him.
