He was a member of St. Asaph's Episcopal Church in Bowling Green, where he had recently completed a term as Senior Warden of the Vestry. He was also a longtime member and past president of the Caroline Ruritan Club and was a staple volunteer at its two annual fundraisers, the Fish Fry and Brunswick Stew sale. He also volunteered at the church's fundraisers, including its annual Oyster Roast. Joey is survived by his wife Kathy Bortz Hancock; his son Chris Hancock (Susan); his mother, Jewell Hancock; his uncles and aunts, Eddie and Sharon Ruth, Steve and Susan Nance and Wilbert and Shirley Hancock; his brothers in law, David Young, Jay Bortz and Gary Ralston and numerous cousins.
