Jacquelin Carter Alexander
Jacquelin C. Alexander, 93, of Fredericksburg, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 27, 2025 at Falls Run Nursing and Rehab Center, surrounded by family and friends. She was born on July 29, 1931, in Fredericksburg, to the late Frances S. and Lelia P. Carter.
Jacquelin, known to most as "Jackie," graduated with a major in Spanish from Mary Washington College and went on to teach Spanish and English in both Spotsylvania and Fairfax counties, where she shared her passion for language with generations of students. Her love for learning and teaching was a central part of her life.
In 1957, Jackie developed an interest in drawing after submitting a "draw me" portrait of the Head of Lincoln to a correspondence art school. With a brief period of instruction in Knoxville, TN, in 1969, her artistic career blossomed. She became a talented watercolor artist, capturing the beauty of the world around her with remarkable skill and a distinctive style. Jackie traveled the East Coast, painting scenes from New Orleans, Charleston, Savannah, Williamsburg, Charlottesville, Alexandria, Fairfax, Annapolis, New England, and her beloved Fredericksburg.
Her passion for art took her abroad to Europe, where she painted breathtaking landscapes and architecture throughout Italy, Spain, Germany, Austria, France, Switzerland, and Scotland. Her work is a testament to her love of beauty and her adventurous spirit, and her paintings can be found in many collections, cherished by those fortunate enough to acquire them.
Jackie is survived by her cousin, E. Gerald "G" Brown; and family friends, Joe and Kim Oyler. She leaves behind a legacy of love, wisdom, and artistic brilliance that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joe F. Alexander.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at Fredericksburg Baptist Church. Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow in Goshen Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations are made to Spotsylvania High School (6975 Courthouse Road, Spotsylvania, VA 22551, Attention: Miss Katie Williams Memo: Art Scholarship).
Jackie's spirit will forever live on through her art, her family, and the many lives she touched with her kindness, talent, and love.
