Jonathan D. Jones
Jonathan David Jones, 19, of Fredericksburg passed away Monday, Nov. 26, 2007.
He was a freshman communications major at Virginia Tech University.
Jonathan graduated with honors from Courtland High School, where he was editor of the literary magazine as well as the high school newspaper, the Courtland Chronicle. He also enjoyed drama. In addition to performing in many productions at Spotswood Baptist Church, Jonathan played the lead role in the high school's production of "Clue."
His creative pursuits also included a talent for drawing cartoons, some of which were published in The Free Lance-Star. Jonathan was awarded several journalism awards from The Free Lance-Star for his articles and editorial cartoons.
Jonathan was involved with the youth group at Spotswood Baptist Church and enjoyed serving in vacation Bible school, mission trips and other service projects.
Jonathan was an intelligent, optimistic young man who was notorious for making people laugh and pointing out the irony in any given situation. He loved critiquing movies and had a special interest in Star Wars. Jonathan was known for his easy smile, making funny voices and his quirky sense of humor.
Jonathan was a great writer and proud to be a Hokie. He wrote an article commemorating the April 16 tragedy at Virginia Tech. He concluded with these words: "We live in a world seemingly dominated by randomness, but it is also a world of hope where life can go on in the face of overwhelming loss. I still believe that."
Jonathan is survived by his parents, David and Grace Jones, and his sister, Sarah; his grandparents, Wilson and Martha Donehoo of Good Hope, Ga., and Reed and Evelyn Jones of Covington, Ga.; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who loved him very much.
