Kay Graninger Obituary

Kay "Frances" Graninger

Kay "Frances" Graninger, born on August 2, 1933, in Stafford, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at Mary Washington Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

Frances dedicated over 30 years to the Stafford Transportation Department as an aide on the handicapped bus. A caregiver at heart, she touched the lives of many with her kindness and unwavering love for her family. She was lifelong member of Ramoth Baptist Church in Stafford; she loved reading her bible and attending bible studies. She prayed nightly for each family member and friend by name and was a breast cancer survivor whose strength inspired all who knew her.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia G. Holloway of Spotsylvania; grandsons, Robert G. Holloway of Kingsport, Tennessee and Jason M. Holloway (Shannon) of Spotsylvania, who were also her caregivers; granddaughters, Angel M. Edwards of Lynchburg and Shelia Wilson of Jessup, Georgia; great-grandchildren, Alexis, Trevon, Elijah, Jordan, MacKenzie, Silas, Zeke, Tobias, and Savannah; great-great-grandchildren, Layla Kay and Braxton; and cherished bonus daughter, Darlene Dougherty of Fredericksburg. Frances is also survived by her sisters, Jessie Haun (Garry) of New Bern, North Carolina, Olivia Carrington (Franklin) of Manassas, and Linda Moore (Richard) of Spotsylvania; brothers, Spencer Wood and Harry Wood (Melba) both of Spotsylvania; special cousin, Pat Potter of Thomasville, North Carolina; as well as numerous nieces and nephews whom she adored.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Anna (Reid) Wood; brother, Harold E. Wood; sisters, Betty Embrey, Margaret Bryant, and Lelia Bloxton; and beloved granddaughters, Christina R. Holloway and Amanda R. Holloway.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. A service will be held at 11 a.m., on Friday, January 17, at Ramoth Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in Frances's name.

Rest Mom, your time on earth is through, rest high on that mountain. You will be greatly missed by all who loved you.
