Mirko Zaunick Obituary

Mirko "Mike" Zaunick

Mirko (Mike) Joseph Zaunick of Fredericksburg, VA, sadly passed away on April 1, 2024, after a decline in health over the past several months. He was an incredible ninety-four years of age.

Mirko was born to Felix and Mary Zaunick on December 21, 1929, in James City, PA. After attending school in James City and Kane, PA, Mirko left school to help run the family farm. In 1949, he began working as a lab analyst at Molded Materials in Ridgway. After several years, he worked his way through the ranks to become a foreman and eventually general foreman. Along the way, he met his wife, Theresa, whom he married on April 30, 1955, and they went on to have six children.

In addition to working full-time at Molded Materials, Mirko (and family) continued to work the farm which eventually became a dairy farm in 1970. To top it off, Mirko was elected tax collector of the township in 1968.

In 1983, in a job move with Molded Materials (now Motion Control), Mirko and Theresa relocated to Fredericksburg, VA as production manager. There, he continued to work for Motion Control until retiring in 1993. He and Theresa were able to put all of their children through college over the course of his working years. He continued to work part-time at Food Lion and Bloom through his retirement years.

Mirko is survived by his loving wife, Theresa; brother, Emil from Johnsonburg, PA; children, Edward Zaunick (Sherry) of Roanoke, TX, William Zaunick of Kane, PA, Joanne Beveridge (Ron) of Fredericksburg, Daniel Zaunick of Pittsburgh, PA, James Zaunick (Marci) of Eighty Four, PA, and Patricia Craddock (John) of Stafford, VA; nine grandchildren Grant, Gregory and Garrett Zaunick, Kristin Chandler, Eliot and Tabitha Zaunick and John, Michael, and Emily Craddock and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by grandson Steven Beveridge.

Mirko talked regularly about family and how important it was to him. He will be remembered for the great example he led as a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

A visitation for Mirko will be on Sunday, April 7 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Covenant Funeral Service, 10830 Patriot Hwy, Fredericksburg, VA. A mass will be held on Monday, April 8 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 1009 Stafford Ave, Fredericksburg, VA with Reverend Tim Courtney officiating. Interment will be at St. Callistus Cemetery in Kane, PA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society, P.O. Box 1493, College Station, Fredericksburg, Virginia 22402. Online guest book is available at covenantfuneralservice.com.
