Robert A. Alsop

Robert Atwood Alsop, 84, of Spotsylvania, passed away at Dogwood Village Health and Rehab on Sunday, April 14, 2024. Bobby was the son of the late Charles and Annie Alsop. He met the love of his life, his late wife, Jean Herring Alsop, who already had three little princesses who he considered daughters. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Fanny A. Eure; and brother, Thomas C. Alsop.

Bobby enjoyed farming and horseback riding on his faithful, trusty steed, Traveler. He briefly served in the US Army and later retired from White Oak equipment, having worked on heavy and farm equipment. He was often sought for his mechanical expertise; however, his favorite equipment was the antique John Deere.

Always kind, patient and the rock of the family after his father's death, his family returned that love, care and support filling his days with all things good, joyful and meaningful to him. He was always ready to step up and put his family first. Never looking for praise, it was what he did with a happy heart.

He leaves to cherish his memory his son, Robert A. Alsop, II; three stepdaughters, Mary Ann Myers (Heath), Pamela Minter (Richard) and Cynthia Thomas; four sisters, Anna Bell, Mary Hopkins, Elaine Hammond (Wayne) and Laura Rowe (Edward); four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; multiple nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He loved matching wits with his nephews, but the little relatives were special to him.

Special thanks to staff and caregivers at Dogwood Village Health and Rehab, Orange, Virginia, for their loving care and support and to his faithful friends who visited.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Johnson Funeral Home, Locust Grove, Va, with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Online guestbook is available at johnsoncares.com.
