Stephen Manster Obituary

Stephen Manster

December 12, 1946 - June 24, 2024

Stephen Manster, 77 of Fredericksburg passed away on Monday, June 24, 2024 in Mary Washington Hospital. Born in Philadelphia, Steve worked for more than 50 years in public service. He worked in planning, zoning and local government across several localities in Virginia to include Front Royal, Colonial Heights, and Fredericksburg. Steve was most proud of his role as the Town Manager of Bowling Green, where he served for 11 years before retiring.

Not only was he invested in his professional career, he was also a humanitarian at heart. Steve spent his time on projects such as GWRideConnnect (formerly RADCO Rideshare), establishing the Thurman Brisben Homeless Shelter, and worked with several charities to provide aid to those in need. His work was recognized by the Virginia Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives. The results of Steve's incredible work ethic and dedication to the community will be felt for years to come.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Marilyn M. Manster; his children, Ilene Goldberg (Howard) and Leo Manster (Jenna); his sister, Marcia Jaffe; and his grandsons, Henry and Lucas Manster.

A funeral will be held on Sunday, June 30th at 1 p.m. at Roosevelt Memorial Park Mausoleum in Trevose, PA with burial to follow.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 8th in the chapel of Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green VA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jewish National Fund at http://www.jnf.org.

I never knew Stephen Manster, but I was one of the recipients of his giving heart. Due to lack of senior housing I could afford, I received shelter at Thurman Brisben Homeless Shelter for 2 1/2 months. Although it would be a few more months before an opening came available I a senior apartment, I received much from what Mr. Master started. I will be praying for his family and friends and all who knew and loved him.

To the family of Stephen Master:
Please accept my heartfelt condolences for your loss. I had the pleasure of working with Steve during the years he assisted the Town of Port Royal with planning and zoning. He was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. He was a wonderful moderator, and always the voice of reason and compromise when disagreements arose.
I always considered Steve to be one of the nicest people that I knew. Please know that he will be missed by many. May your memories help comfort you during this difficult time.
With deepest sympathy,
Della Mills
