Susan Jane Fogelgren Borders, 75, of Colonial Beach, Virginia, passed away on July 17, 2024.

Susan was born in Arlington, Virginia, to the late Sidney "Bud" Fogelgren and Ella May Walton Fogelgren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Daniel Joseph Borders, along with her brother, Steven Fogelgren. Susan is survived by her brother, John Fogelgren (Honey Fogelgren),sister-in-law Joni Fogelgren, her sons, Scott Borders (Emily Borders) and Matthew Borders (Jacqueline Borders), and her three grandchildren, NJ Borders, Sean Borders, and Zoe Borders.

Susan was a 50+ year resident of her beloved town of Colonial Beach. A dedicated employee, she served as an administrative assistant for Colonial Beach Public Schools for 28 years. Among her proudest accomplishments was her 15 years of service as a Red Cross swim instructor, teaching hundreds of children swimming and lifesaving skills. She, herself, was a lifelong swimmer, from competitive swimming in Arlington, VA and participation in Junior Olympics as a child, through regular lap swimming late in life at the YMCA in King George, VA. An avid beachgoer, one of Susan's favorite events every year was the annual family beach vacation to Duck, NC. She also loved children, whether it was helping them in school, at the pool, serving as a Sunday School teacher at the church, or doting over her grandchildren. Susan had a kind, warm heart, and was always more than happy to help anyone she met. She will be dearly missed by many.

The family would like to extend our sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses, and chaplains at Mary Washington Hospital for helping with her treatment, her transition to comfort care, and for supporting her family.

A memorial service will be held for Susan on Sunday, October 6, at 2 p.m. at Popes Creek Baptist Church (9131 Kings Highway, Montross, VA 22520).
