Viola H. Manning
Viola Hill Manning, 89, of Norfolk, formerly of Bowling Green, died Friday, Sept. 7, 2007, at the home of her daughter Angela M. Grant of Norfolk.
Mrs. Manning was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Bowling Green, where she served faithfully as a deaconess, superintendent of the Sunday school and member of the Usher Board, Senior Choir and Missionary Society and of the Mattaponi Association.
She was the daughter of the late Israel Hill and Naomi Hill. She was the widow of William E. Manning.
Survivors include three daughters, Angela M. Grant of Norfolk, Viola L. Smith and her husband, Frank, of Bowling Green, and Virginia N. Carroll of Frederick, Md.; a devoted goddaughter, Rosa E. Rainey of Norfolk; three sons, Walter A. Manning and his wife, Mary, of Camp Springs, Md., Woodrow W. Manning and his wife, Theresa, of Clinton, Md., and Jasper E. Manning of Baltimore, Md.; one devoted godson, James M. Johnson and his wife, Nancy, of Richmond; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Pearl Richards of Milford, Ethel V. Wright and her husband, Charles, of Chesapeake, Lorraine Pinckney and Mable Harris of Long Beach, N.Y.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at Bethel Baptist Church, Bowling Green, with the Rev. Kevin Childs officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Milford.
The body may be viewed from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, at C.W. Edwards Funeral Home, Bowling Green, and one hour before the service Saturday at the church.
