Walter Coates
Walter "Boots" Coates, 84, of Ladysmith passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at Mary Washington Hospital.
He was the owner and operator of Coates Trucking Co. in Ladysmith and a deacon at Beulah Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Cora; three sons, Christopher M. Coates (Linda) and Donald A. Coates (Carolyn), both of Ladysmith, and Victor Coates of Spotsylvania County; daughter Angela R. Coates (Sadiq) of Ladysmith; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four brothers, Otis Coates of Silver Spring, Md., Leon Coates of Temple Hill, Md., Floyd Coates of Laurel, Md., and Allandus Coates of Waldorf, Md.; and three sisters, Carol Bond of Fredericksburg, Laverne Baptiste of Forestville, Md., and Loren Brooks of Adelphi, Md.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 5, at Beulah Baptist Church in Woodford. A service will be held at the church at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 6, with the Rev. Lloyd Fox officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
