Earl Haines Obituary

Earl Leroy Haines, 94, of Comfort, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2025, after a long and fulfilling life. Born on January 16, 1931, in San Antonio, Texas, Leroy grew up in Fredericksburg.

Leroy was a devoted husband for 58 years to his beloved wife, Annie Mae Haines, who preceded him in death, along with his sons, Sherman Lee and Stanley, and his grandson, Aubrey Matthew Mahan. He is survived by his loving children, Bonnie MacDonald (David Edwards), Rodney Haines, and Peggy Mahan (Aubrey). He leaves behind cherished grandchildren: Alexa MacDonald, Lucas MacDonald (Greta), Amanda Nicole, Hallie Cech (Josef), Kelsey Grissom (Nate), Rusty Haines, and Stanley Haines Jr. (Heather), as well as proud great-grandchildren Bryson, Garrison, Hunter, Nora, and Tyler, with another great-grandchild on the way.

Leroy proudly served as a Marine Corps engineer during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953, earning the National Defense Service, Korean Service, and United Nations Service Medals. He continued his commitment in the Marine Corps Reserves until 1959. For 40 years, he dedicated his skills as a heavy equipment mechanic to Allen Keller Construction Company, and even after retirement, he continued to work independently for another five years.

Beyond his professional life, Leroy was a lifelong tinkerer and an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting, especially on memorable trips to Colorado and New Mexico with his wife, even shooting the biggest deer on the ranch at 93! He also enjoyed fishing, horse races, old Westerns, wrestling matches, and finding treasures at estate auctions. More than anything, Leroy's greatest love was his family, especially his loving wife, Annie Mae.

A service to celebrate Leroy's life will be held on Friday, June 20, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Schaetter Funeral Home, 554 Roosevelt Avenue, Comfort, Texas 78013. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m.
